Hellos and Goodbyes

Why yes, once again it has been a really long time since I've shared anything here.  It was an interesting fall season...I quit my job, and while I thought I would have more time, and be more inspired to write things here, in fact the opposite happened.  And not only in terms of this blog, I felt like my whole life just shut down and got very quiet.  Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but the longer the time away, the more I realized that it was time for me to close this chapter.  My interests have changed over the years, and while I still get super stoked about showing a really weird thing I found at the thrift store, I just don't think I have much more to say.  I feel like the last day of 2012 is a perfect spot to finish up this Rare Treasure story.  So THANK YOU so much for stopping by here, for being interested in all the weird items I find out there in the world, and for your comments and emails.  For realz!

But before I go...just one more little show and tell moment.  This is a book my cousin put together for all our close family members.  It's a book of pictures of my grandmother, who passed away in 2001.  Some of these images I have seen many times before, some were completely new to me, and all of it is really cool.  My grandmother was a very important person in our family, and it's nice to have these memories of her, all together like this. (Thanks Gina!)

Oh my.  This sweater.  Sometimes I simply cannot resist a ridiculous clothing purchase.  It's a sweater-with a cat-wearing a sweater!!! It's so ugly, it's turned itself back around to being acceptable.  Maybe...

I mean, it was only like 5 bucks at Goodwill so why not, right?

Road Trip

Oh hi there....it's been a while!  Somehow time got away from me there.  Things got busy in August, although not really with anything really different, just living life, you know, enjoying those last summer days.  And now it is fall.  How is this year almost over?  How?!  I know I sound like an old person every time I say this, but I can't help it.  Things are moving too quickly.

These are some pics from the last real weekend of summer.  We took a road trip to Aberfoyle Antique Market, near Guelph.  It was a really fun day and we ended it with roadside butter tarts and a final swim in a lake.  The next week, right on time, it got rainy and cold, and summer was over,  just like that.

Vintage Look//Minnie Riperton

I'm not a huge fan of flower crowns, but this one is definitely the exception.  It almost looks like little stars floating around her head.  Magical.  Actually, this whole album cover is just amazing.

Worn//Summer Fade

This summer there have been a lot of city escapes which have been nice.  I feel like I flip flop between two ways of thinking in the summer.  Sometimes I feel I just have to work all the time, and carry on as usual, and other times, I'm just like fuck it, I want to hang out at the beach like everyone else does on the weekends.  I'm definitely feeling the latter sentiment this year, and I have the tan to show for it too!  Summer always just slips away so fast, and I want to take advantage this year so I don't end up feeling crusty I didn't go anywhere or do anything when September comes around.

This shirt is new and one of my favorite cheap and cheerful purchases of the summer.  It's a faded neon yellow, and combined with my bleached out hair and tan it's the perfect summer combo.  I feel very much like I belong on the beach in Point Break, which if you haven't seen in a while, or ever--recommended summer viewing!!

When I found these shoes at Goodwill, in my size, for fourteen bucks, I was pretty sure they were going to be mine.  You know how I love a hot deal!  I rarely wear heels like this, but they were pretty amazing, so I had to give them a try.  As I was debating with myself, there was an older gal waiting by the fitting rooms who gave me a real pep talk.  "Oooh, so pretty!  They look good on you.  You are lucky you can walk in heels, I can't do it any more....You should get them." I think she sold me on them more than I did myself.

Favorites//Mara Hoffman Swimwear

Oh the heat!  I really do love summer.  It's my favorite season, and I love how everything seems possible in the summer, how there are always plans and fun things to do, and I don't even mind the sheen of sweat that never seems to leave my face.  But honestly, when it's like 100˚+ outside, my brain just seems to process everything so slowly.  I move in slow motion.  I feel like by 3pm, I just have to give up.  So I am very thankful for the public pools to take an afternoon dip!  I hung out there Tuesday afternoon, and kind of wished I had a better swimsuit than the vintage one I currently own.  It's cute and all, but the vintage suits just never seem to fit quite right and I feel like there is this constant adjusting happening.  Not cool!  If I had the bucks, I would love a Mara Hoffman suit. I adore the graphic vibes and unique cuts.  They are really my fave right now.
